Insights for Bishops on Diocesan Bankruptcy

On February 26, 2021, The Catholic Project hosted an event for bishops and their staffs on diocesan bankruptcy. The Catholic Project has been keeping track of diocesan bankruptcies, with the help of Marie Reilly.

The event was held via zoom and designed to offer both legal and pastoral insights for bishops.

The dean of The Columbus School of Law, Stephen Payne, helped to organize the panel, which was moderated by Bishop Robert Deeley of the Diocese of Portland in Maine.

The panelists were:

  • Marie Reilly, Penn State Law
  • Brian Wenger, who assisted the archdiocese of St. Paul- Minneapolis in their bankruptcy case
  • Archbishop Bernard Hebda, Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis
